Description

Original table row No.: 279; Excavation year: 2006; Remark: Hoard. This was originally the factory site of the Beijing Yili Food Company. In July 2006 it was redeveloped as the Guangyi Building. A hoard of two pottery jars was found, containing over 30,000 coins in total. One jar held flat-headed spade coins; the other held Ming-inscribed and straight knife coins. It is said that a bronze ding-tripod and a gui-vessel were also found together with them. Most of the excavated coins were subsequently lost/dispersed. The find spot was only about 100 meters from the Baoguosi antiques market in Beijing, and some construction workers reportedly sold the excavated ancient coins directly at the market on the spot. Most of the coins that entered private collections have since scattered across the country.
