Yuci is located in the Zhuanwayao, Yuci County. In 1942, Japanese scholars had done a preliminary survey. In 1954, the Shanxi Institute of Archaeology continued surveying and mapping the plan of the city. Since 2013, the Jinzhong Institute of archaeology restarted the survey. Outside of the city, near the Maoerling village, high-ranking elite's tombs from the Warring States period have also been excavated. Pottery with the inscription “Ci Shi”(Market of Yuci) had been found in the cemetery, implying that the location of Yuci County should not be far away from the cemetery.
