Description

城址,平面呈长方形,东西长约400米,南北宽约300米,城墙多已平毁,现存东北部一段,残长近100米,宽10米,高3-4米,黄土夯筑,城内文化堆积厚约0.80米;曾出土楚国"郢爰""陈爰"金币;采集有东周时期夹砂灰陶绳纹鬲口沿、鬲足、罐口沿、铜虎符,汉代泥质灰陶罐口沿、"千秋万岁"瓦当、五铢铜钱等;《中国古今地名大词典》载"许田,在山东临沂县西北五十五里……";见《文物》1985年第12期。探沂镇许由城村东北.

A city site; rectangular in plan, about 400 m east-west and 300 m north-south; most of the wall has been leveled, with one stretch surviving in the northeast, about 100 m long, 10 m wide, and 3-4 m high, built of rammed yellow earth; cultural deposits within the city are about 0.80 m thick. Chu gold money inscribed "Ying Yuan" and "Chen Yuan" has been found here; other finds include Eastern Zhou sand-tempered gray-pottery cord-marked li-tripod rims, li-tripod legs, and jar rims, a bronze tiger tally, and Han-dynasty clay-paste gray-pottery jar rims, tile-ends inscribed "Qianqiu Wansui" (a thousand autumns, ten thousand years), and Wuzhu bronze coins.
