Description
Unclear. A single spade coin was found on the canal slope southeast of Duqianyao Village and northeast of Guantuyao Village. In June 1993, 8 more small flat-foot spades were found at the same canal slope, their inscriptions likewise illegible. According to local residents, "these coins were also leftovers missed during the first excavation." Visiting the site repeatedly, the author also collected several fragments of spade coins; based on traces of the broken inscriptions, the obverse characters were probably 阏 (E) or 安阳 (Anyang), among others. A local resident also dug up a small sand-tempered, hand-made pottery sherd bearing a stamped mark (see Fig. 2); the pottery inscription is illegible and its meaning remains to be studied further. Based on the sherd's fabric, decoration, stamped mark, and script style, it should date to the Warring States period, indicating that this is a Warring States-period site. Nearby there is also a pottery inscription resembling the character 君 (Jun).
