Description
Unclear. The coins were found on the north bank of the Ding River, south of Huaishuwan Village. Aside from a portion lost during the Cultural Revolution, most were preserved at the Nanyang Municipal Museum and the Xixia County Cultural Center. The Nanyang Municipal Museum transferred out 6 kg, about half of the total. The Xixia County Cultural Center retained 1,298 pieces, weighing 2.6 kg. The coins were contained in a pottery jar; the findspot is not far from the old city of Xiyi, capital of the state of Chu. The report suggests they may have been buried before the first year of King Qingxiang's reign (298 BCE). The state of Qin took fifteen cities from Chu, including the city of Xi.
