Description

Hoard. Collected by Qinglong County during a cultural relics survey. Ning Ke states that in autumn 1984, while digging a cellar not far from the village, a small wooden box was found 80 cm below the surface; the ancient coins inside were fused together, apparently having been strung on a cord. After conservation, 189 complete round coins and 40 damaged ones were identified. According to the Qinhuangdao City Gazetteer, this find was made in 1986, and knife coins and spade coins were unearthed alongside it, with a total weight of 30 kg. According to the Gazetteer of Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County, the coins were contained in a wooden box, with 189 complete pieces bearing the inscription "Yi Hua"; in addition there were 2.5 kg of knife coins and a number of damaged spade coins. Wang Yunrui's figures differ somewhat from the above, giving over 30 spade coins unearthed, 11 of which are relatively complete.
