Uncertain; surface-collected. Located on a terrace on the south bank of the Zhi River. Roughly square in plan, with the north wall forming an L-shape. North wall 2,426 m long, east wall 2,225 m, south wall 1,915 m, west wall 1,451 m; total area about 4 km². The city wall was built of rammed earth, about 40 m wide at the base, with a surviving width of 4-8 m at the top and a surviving height of 1-7 m. Nine city gates: three each on the east and west walls, two on the south wall, and one on the north wall. In the northeast corner of the city, two rammed-earth platform building foundations survive: one measuring 30 m east-west by 25 m north-south with a surviving height of 1.5 m, and another measuring 28 m east-west by 18 m north-south with a surviving height of 1-2 m. Artifacts collected within the city include bronze arrowheads, bronze belt hooks, bronze knife coins, and pottery fragments. The pottery is mostly clay-paste gray ware; besides plain surfaces, cord-marked decoration occurs, with identifiable forms including li tripods, guan jars, pen basins, weng urns, dou dishes, and banwa, tongwa roof tiles, and pottery water pipes. Historical records indicate a Bairen city settlement already existed in the Spring and Autumn period, belonging to Jin; the early Western Han established Bairen County. This city site should be the ancient walled town of Bairen.
