Description

Context unknown; a different batch from the 11-coin ant-nose-coin record from Laoqiuji Songji, Linquan County, 1956, already in this table (Zhu Huo, New Investigations into Ancient Coins). According to Feng Yaotang's original 1985 report, 2,355 Chu bronze cowrie coins weighing 6 kg in total were found in Shizhuang Village, Cuizhai Township, Linquan County in June 1983; after sorting, 2,318 were inscribed "Xun," 34 "Xing," 2 "Piao," and 1 bore "Xun" with the numeral "one" added above it (the source text's characters were not all clearly legible by OCR; some readings are inferred from context). This is at variance with the figure of 3,353 pieces cited by Zhou Shaohua in 2013; both figures are preserved here, and it is recommended that the original museum inventory records be checked to resolve the discrepancy. The same site is also recorded under the "Shizhuang Site" entry (26-A26) in the Atlas of Chinese Cultural Relics, Anhui Volume: Shizhuang Village, Cuizhai Township; Warring States and Han periods; about 960,000 sq m in area, with cultural deposits about 1.8 m thick; finds include Warring-States pottery and Chu bronze cowrie coins, as well as Han-dynasty tile-ends and pottery.
