Context unknown. 100 m west of Xiaobianzhuang Village, Li'erzhuang Township; a provincial-level protected cultural-relics site; Spring-and-Autumn period through Tang dynasty. Located on the south bank of the Huai River, the city plan is roughly square, about 137,000 sq m in area; the walls are of rammed yellow earth, about 360 m east-west and 380 m north-south, with a base width of about 18 m, a top width of about 6 m, and a residual height of 3-4 m (up to 5 m at the corners); there were four symmetrical gates on the four sides, now surviving as gaps roughly 5 m wide, with a moat over 20 m wide outside the walls. Finds within the city include Spring-and-Autumn and Warring-States tile-ends, pottery li-tripod legs, jars, dou dishes, and basins, bronze swords, dagger-axes, and arrowheads, and ant-nose coins, as well as Han-dynasty tube tiles, Wuzhu coins, and clay sealing labels reading "Seal of the Assistant of Zhongli." The discovery year is not recorded in the source. According to old gazetteers, the city was built in 538 BCE and rebuilt in the fifth year of the Tianjian reign of the Liang dynasty (506 CE); during the Wude era of the Tang dynasty the seat of Zhongli County was relocated west to Linhuai, after which the city fell out of use.
