中阳 (Zhongyang)

关于中阳的地望有三种说法。 （1） 柳林：《水经.河水注》“（河水）又南过中阳县西”，其地约当今山西省柳林县三交镇之”吴王城“。《清一统志》认为，孝义市中阳故城是曹魏以后侨置中阳县，汉代中阳当在柳林。 （2）孝义：《水经.文水注》“文湖水迳中阳县故城东。按《晋书地道记》《太康地记》西河有中阳城旧县也。”《括地志》采用这一说法，认为”中阳故城在汾州隰城县南十里，汉中阳县也“。 （3）神木：张家川汉简《秩律》简452有“中阳”，该简地名全部为上郡属县。中阳似不可能在黄河以东。马孟龙根据《说文解字》“漹水出西河中阳北沙，南入河”判断中阳应当在秃尾河与窟野河上游，今天神木县和府谷县境内。考古调查表明此地最大汉代城址为喇嘛河古城，附近曾出土一件秦代铜戈，置用地为“中阳”。

The location of Zhongyang County 中陽縣 has long been a subject of debate. Based on the transmitted texts, there is no doubt that Zhongyang is located on the east side of the Yellow River, probably in present-day Xiaoyi County孝義縣 or Liulin County柳林縣. However, new excavated texts challenge this assumption. In the Zhangjiashan Han slips, Zhilv 秩律(Statutes on Official Ranks), Zhongyang belongs to the Shang prefecture. Therefore, it seems unlikely that Zhongyang County is located on the East side of the Yellow River. It is possible that the invasion of the Xiongnu in the late Eastern Han dynasty caused forced migration, and many counties that used to be located on the West side of the Yellow River were relocated to the East side of the Yellow River. The excavation in Yulin provides new clues to point to the city site of Zhongyang County. Yulin Institute of Archaeology has conducted a survey in Langanbao欄杆堡 city site and excavated a cemetery near the city site. Some pottery bears the inscription “Zhongyang中陽,” suggesting that it was produced in Zhongyang County. Since the cemetery dates to the late Warring States period, the city site can be identified as Zhongyang.
